cts | Volt a Day | Meter Muddle Clarity Hoped For

We'll see what happens tomorrow. Mr. Electric (they installed the Voltec charger for the Volt) is returning tomorrow. They are going to try to address all of the concerns of the electrical inspector from the City of Santa Monica.

At the same time, Southern California Edison is going to be on site with their contractor to replace the TOU-EV meter. They have agreed to pay to have another sub-panel installed in the garage for just the chargers. (Of course, this means some of the work that Mr. Electric is arriving to do will be obsolete even as they are installing the new breaker, but this is impossible to coordinate between the two contractors and SCE wouldn't let me use a contractor other than their own.)

To make it more interesting, a warranty repairman is arriving to fix the gas dryer in the house. I figure the mix of natural gas and electricity could only make it more exciting.

At the end of tomorrow I hope to post that the meter muddle is solved, that there is a Time Of Use meter on the house, and a separate TOU for the electric vehicle charging. The two chargers (a Magnecharger for the Toyota Rav4 and a Voltec charger for the Chevy Volt) should be wired into their own sub-panel fed from the TOU-EV.

My wife said she was charmed by my optimism (although that's mostly about the dryer, which has been more of a nightmare than even the meter muddle).
