cts | Volt a Day | Leaves on the Wind September 23, 2010

Lance Armstrong has tweeted about getting delivery of the first Leaf in the United States. And now I just received this email:
We are thrilled with the overwhelming enthusiasm people like you have shown for the 100% electric Nissan LEAF™. To date, 20,000 people have already reserved a LEAF - a number that has exceeded our expectations. That's a lot of cars to have reservations for. I hope this doesn't meant the battle for this market is already over. By contrast, I did not have a good experience going to my local dealer to try to buy a Volt. (To be written up in a separate post.)We have completed the first phase of reservations. In order to provide the best level of customer service and premium ownership experience to the first Nissan LEAF drivers, we will not be accepting new reservations until the next phase begins. But please be assured - your reservation will not be affected and you will be able to purchase or lease a Nissan LEAF. Pausing reservations until the next phase begins will allow us to focus on serving you and others who have reserved a Nissan LEAF.
We thank you for your interest in going 100% electric.
And, by the way, I can't even figure out what the email means to me. Is Nissan saying that my reservation is not one they are actively working on? Surely they didn't have 20,000 before April 2010. Right?
