When you fire up the cool iPhone application for your OnStar account it prompts you to name your GM vehicle. My Volt is named Alessandro, since I am a geek.

That's sort of obvious. Alessandro Volta lending his name to your Volt. It would be cool if after the first three months of shipping cars GM did a baby-naming chart and showed what the most common names were. I imagine a lot of people will just let the default "My Volt" work for them.

But it's a high-tech vehicle and a lot are going to do a cool, historic name, right? Volta himself?

And if there were the same sort of application for the Tesla, how many are naming their cars Nikola?

As I write this, Alessandro is 77% charged and awaiting the rate-drop at midnight to start charging. According to the iPhone.
